We put the Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 on a race track

If you ever wondered what happens when a luxury limo downs a triple-shot flat white and decides to chase lap times, the Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 is your answer. We hurled this 500 kW, 1,000 Nm electric sledgehammer around Hampton Downs Motorsport Park, which feels about as sensible as taking a penthouse suite drifting—but crikey, it works. Yes, it weighs as much as a small country, but that low-mounted battery keeps it pinned through corners like it’s glued to the tarmac. The torque hits instantly—no gears, no waiting, just full send every time you breathe on the pedal—and suddenly you’re hunting down “proper” performance cars in near silence like some kind of posh electric ninja. The fake engine noise? Bit of a laugh. The performance? Dead serious. It’s big, it’s absurd, and it has absolutely no right being this good on track… which is exactly why it’s so bloody brilliant.
