I’ve just walked out of Everything Electric Austraila, the three-day clean-tech circus run by the legends at Fully Charged. Honestly, my inner EV nerd is fizzing like a flat white on its third shot.
We had indestructible Kiwi-made chargers from Hikotron. You just tap your credit card and then boom your charging. No apps. No faff. About time.
Then there was a deliciously naughty 1965 Volkswagen Beetle conversion packing Tesla guts and 200 horsepower. Nothing says “sleeper” like silently dusting a Ranger at the lights. The tiny solar-powered homes were smarter than half the houses in Auckland. Then over to the MG booth, The MG4 XPower whoa, It’s basically a shopping trolley with a caffeine addiction.
The solar race cars prepping for the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge were properly mind-bending. Twenty kilos of batteries. Three thousand kilometres. Camping in the Outback. I’m in.
I even somehow blagged my way onto the stage for a panel chat about automotive innovation. Proof that if you hang around long enough, someone eventually hands you a microphone.
Top it all off with the glorious Savic C-Series e-motorbike, complete with reverse mode (because dignity matters), and you’ve got a weekend that proves the clean-tech future isn’t coming. It’s already here. Quietly judging your diesel.
See you there next year.
