The Subaru Solterra kicks off at $80k ($85k for the Touring) and comes standard with dual motors, all-wheel drive, and 160kW. Subaru claims 485km of range, but in the real world you’re closer to 380km. It’s quick enough at 6.9 seconds to 100km/h and feels like a 2.0L turbo, just without the noise. Ride comfort is excellent, the seats are properly cushy (heated front and rear), and the low-mounted 71.4kWh battery helps it handle corners better than you’d expect for a family SUV.
Inside there’s heaps of space and a 441L boot, but bizarrely… no glovebox. None. Charging 20–80% takes about 30 minutes on a decent DC fast charger, so road trips are manageable with a coffee stop. The real surprise is off-road ability — stick it in X-Mode and it’ll crawl up muddy hills like it’s late for a DOC booking. Not perfect, not cheap, but quietly capable. Very Subaru
